Peculiarities of MRI for children
In Children’s Polyclinic of Litfond, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is performed for children over 5-6 years of age. The possibility to carry out MRI in children depends not so much on age as on child's ability to calmly and motionlessly lie during the procedure.
During the MRI (15 – 40 minutes depending on the type of examination), a child should lie completely motionless, otherwise, the pictures will be of poor quality and will have a low diagnostic value.
The examination is completely painless, the only physical inconvenience that accompanies MRI is a rather loud knock during the operation of the tomograph.
During the procedure, the accompanying parent can stay in the same room with his/her child. However, it is not recommended for a pregnant mother in the first trimester of pregnancy to be in the same room with a working tomograph.
